Moat Farm Riding Centre

Suffolk

Moat Farm Riding Centre is a family-run equestrian centre situated near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, focused on introducing children to riding and ponies. Group lessons are available from the age of five upwards, with a structured programme that takes riders from their first contact with a pony through to more accomplished work. A Pony Club Centre is affiliated with the school, allowing young riders to work towards achievement badges, efficiency tests and Pony Club activities as part of their regular instruction.

The centre runs escorted hacks in small groups, giving riders a chance to take ponies out across the surrounding Suffolk countryside under experienced supervision. Cross country and show jumping are both offered alongside general hacking, with a jumping field available for schooling over fences. Ridden assessments and private riding sessions are also offered for those who want focused coaching or to measure their progress against a set standard. Holiday pony mornings and birthday parties add to the calendar, giving children extra opportunities to spend time with the ponies outside the usual lesson timetable.

Facilities include both an indoor arena and an outdoor arena, with floodlighting to extend riding hours during the darker months. A play area and a summerhouse give space for relaxation or for younger children to wait between activities, and tea and coffee facilities are available on site for parents and guardians. The school is licensed by Babergh District Council and is associated with the British Horse Society through a BHS Accredited Professional Coach, with instruction also supported by a UKCC Level 2 qualification.

Children's lessons run from 4.30 to 6.30 pm Monday to Thursday and from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. The centre's straightforward family focus, its Pony Club affiliation and the combination of indoor and outdoor facilities make it a practical choice for parents in the Bury St Edmunds area looking for a safe, structured introduction to riding.
