Witcham Equestrian Centre is a British Horse Society approved riding school and livery yard based in Witcham, near Ely in Cambridgeshire. The centre teaches riders of all abilities, from complete beginners through to those returning to the saddle or working towards more advanced goals. Lessons cover dressage, show jumping and cross country, and the school also runs hacking out on local routes. Children are welcome, and a mechanical horse called Gideon is available for practice away from the yard.
Facilities include a flood-lit covered arena measuring 30 metres by 50 metres, a flood-lit outdoor arena, and an all weather turnout paddock. The covered stable yard keeps horses comfortable year round, and there is a secure tack room plus a rest room with a coffee and tea machine. Fred's function room provides indoor space for meetings, parties or group sessions, and an external trainer hire service allows visiting instructors to use the facilities. Riders can also book lunging and long reining lessons or stable management and horse care sessions in addition to mounted work.
For horse owners the centre offers full and part livery, with the livery yard open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 8.30pm and weekends from 8.30am to 5.00pm. A syndicate sharer scheme gives people a way to share a horse without taking on full ownership. The centre is licensed by East Cambs District Council and the chief instructor holds the BHSAI qualification. Lessons run from Tuesday to Saturday, with late evening sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the office is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9.00am to 5.00pm.
The postcode is CB6 2LD, making the school straightforward to reach from Ely and the surrounding villages. Enquiries about lessons, livery, the syndicate scheme or hiring an external trainer can be made by contacting the office during opening hours. Riders and owners across the East of England use the centre for its combination of indoor and outdoor arenas, qualified tuition and the practical extras such as the mechanical horse and on-site function room.
