The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding is an independent charity affiliated to the Riding for the Disabled Association, based in Shelley within the Babergh district of Suffolk. The centre provides riding therapy and sensory horse-based activities for people of all ages living with disabilities, drawing on the skills of qualified coaches and a volunteer team numbering more than 100.
Sessions are scheduled Monday to Friday during term time and are shaped around the needs of each rider. The centre teaches children and welcomes participants of all ages, with disciplines that include countryside challenge work, dressage and therapeutic riding. A mechanical horse and a riding simulator are used alongside live sessions, giving coaches additional tools for coaching and assessment.
The site includes an arena, a stable yard and a quiet corner area for sensory and relaxation work. Alongside regular lessons, the centre runs a 100 Club, fundraising events, dedicated mechanical horse coaching, and themed activities such as Tea with a Pony, which is priced from GBP 15 per participant. Riders, families and carers are introduced to the horses and the routines of the yard in a calm, supported environment.
The centre operates from postcode IP7 5QY in the East of England and is open Monday to Friday during term time. Anyone interested in sessions, volunteering or supporting the charity's fundraising can contact the centre directly for current availability, session formats and referral details.
