Park Foot Pony Trekking

Park Foot Pony Trekking sits on the edge of the Lake District near Pooley Bridge and runs supervised rides onto the fells above Ullswater. The centre has been established for over 30 years and specialises in hacking and pony trekking rather than arena-based lessons, giving visitors a chance to explore the surrounding countryside on horseback. Treks are led by experienced staff and the rides cater to complete beginners as well as more confident riders, with sessions available for adults and children alike.

Riders aged 4 and upwards can take part, subject to a 13 stone weight limit, making the centre a popular choice for families visiting the area. Three main ride types are offered. Pony Paddock Rides, lasting around five minutes, start from GBP 7 and give young or first-time riders a gentle introduction in a contained setting. Park Rides and Fell Rides extend further afield, taking groups out onto the open fells for longer treks with panoramic views over Ullswater and the surrounding fells. All rides are accompanied and the pace is set to suit the group.

The setting is typical of the northern Lake District, with the centre surrounded by open fell and lakeside scenery just outside the village of Pooley Bridge. Riders are kitted out with appropriate hats and equipment before setting off, and the centre holds the necessary licence to operate pony trekking activities. As the rides are entirely outdoors, suitable clothing and footwear are recommended.

Park Foot Pony Trekking operates seasonally, opening from late March through to mid November. Telephone lines are open from 9am to 5pm for enquiries and bookings. The centre is located at CA10 2NA, just a short drive from Penrith and easily combined with other visits around Ullswater during a stay in the Lake District.
