Cumbria Rural Academy

Ulverston, Westmorland and Furness

BHS approved

Cumbria Rural Academy, trading as Harness Change, is an equestrian centre set in Ulverston within the Lake District. The school runs a wide programme of lessons and riding activities, alongside alternative education and wellbeing sessions that use horses in their delivery. Group and private lessons are available, with experienced instructors teaching flatwork, dressage and show jumping to riders of varying abilities.

Beginners and children are welcomed, with Pony Club activities forming a core part of the weekly timetable. The centre holds Pony Club Centre status and supports young riders working through their badges. Hacking and trail riding take place directly from the yard, making use of the surrounding Cumbrian countryside. Cross country schooling and jumping are also available for those wanting to develop further.

Facilities include an indoor arena, an outdoor arena, an outdoor jumping paddock and a viewing gallery, allowing riding to continue in poor weather and giving spectators a clear vantage point. A clubhouse on site provides space for groups to gather between sessions. The centre is accessible and hosts additional services such as children's birthday parties, pony rides, hen and stag parties, a boys club, equine assisted therapy, business consultancy and corporate events.

The yard is listed on the British Horse Society approved register, offering assurance around safety and standards. Riders interested in lessons, the Pony Club, alternative education or wellbeing programmes can contact the centre directly at postcode LA12 8PB to discuss availability and booking.
