Newton Ferrers Equus is a riding school set at Newton Downs Farm near Plymouth in Devon, running coaching for riders aged four and upwards. Tuition is delivered by British Horse Society and ABRS qualified instructors across private, shared and group formats, with lessons covering flatwork, dressage, show jumping, polework and cross country. A horse simulator is available for riders who want to build their position and confidence before getting on a horse.
The centre runs a Pony Club programme, BHS Stage 1 and Stage 2 training, and BHS Riding and Road Safety courses. Holiday activity weeks and school and youth adventure days give children and school groups a structured introduction to horse care and riding, while birthday parties can be arranged for younger riders. Hackers can take guided woodland and riverside routes from the yard, making use of the trails in the surrounding South West countryside.
On site, an indoor school allows year round training whatever the weather, and the horse simulator offers an additional teaching tool alongside traditional lessons. Lessons, hacks, simulator sessions, Pony Club, parties and training courses are all bookable through the school.
The yard holds British Horse Society approved register status and is also an ABRS affiliated centre and a Pony Club centre. It is fully licensed and operates from Newton Downs Farm, postcode PL8 1JA. Pricing starts from GBP 30 for a thirty minute junior simulator session, with package deals available for riders wanting to book multiple sessions. Contact details and a full timetable can be obtained directly from the school.
