Westerlands Trekking Centre

Petworth, West Sussex

BHS approved

Westerlands Trekking Centre is based in Petworth, West Sussex, and sits on the British Horse Society approved register. It is also a recognised BHS Changing Lives Through Horses centre, delivering that programme on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 2pm, with flexibility built into the schedule. Sessions start from GBP 40 per hour for one-to-one work.

The centre runs alternative education and equine-facilitated learning for children and young people aged 5 to 25. Alongside riding, tuition covers horse care, lunging and stable management. Group and one-to-one sessions are both available, including Horse Rosette Awards and a Friday Saddle Club that caters specifically to home-educated students. The focus is on building practical horsemanship skills alongside personal development.

On site there is stabling and a horsebox cafe, and the wider site hosts separate farm stay, wellness and nature-based activities run independently of the equestrian programmes. The school holds a five-star licence from Chichester Council, is ABRS+ approved, and is insured through the NFU.

Westerlands is licensed and inspected by Chichester Council, and visitors travel to the postcode GU28 0QJ in the South East of England. Anyone interested in the Changing Lives Through Horses programme, lessons or the Friday Saddle Club is encouraged to contact the centre directly for availability and booking details.
