Sweetlands Farm Riding School

West Sussex

Sweetlands Farm is a long established riding school and family farm set in the West Sussex countryside near Billingshurst. The school focuses on teaching children, with structured group lessons, lead rein sessions and dedicated Tiny Tots Pony Time starting from GBP 32 for a 30 minute session. Beginners are welcome, and the team works through the ABRS progressive test and rosette award scheme so young riders can track their progress from their first sitting trot to more confident independent riding.

The setting is designed around younger riders and family visitors. A floodlit all weather menage hosts lessons throughout the year, supported by on site stabling, a viewing area for parents and a heated cafe known as the Farmer's Rest. Lessons follow a dressage foundation, helping children build a balanced, correct seat that transfers to other disciplines later on.

Beyond regular lessons, Sweetlands runs school holiday pony camps, pony hire for members, stable management sessions and equine assisted learning. The wider farm offers animal learning sessions and small animal experiences, making it a popular choice for parties, school groups and family days out. The Pony Barn provides indoor space for handling and theory work, and the cafe is also available for venue hire.

The school holds a 5 star higher standards licence, is ABRS+ approved, DEFRA licensed, an EASP member and an AQA unit award scheme centre. It was a SEIB Best Small Riding School UK 2023 runner up. Sweetlands Farm Riding School is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday from 8.30am to 1pm, with Sundays closed. Visitors are advised to get in touch directly to book lessons, camps or animal experiences.
