Pony Patch is a family-run riding venue based in Glossop, Derbyshire, aimed primarily at young children from the age of two upwards. Lessons and sessions focus on lead-rein riding and beginner-friendly pony trekking, with staff handling the ponies while children sit in the saddle. Older children and complete beginners can also be catered for on an introductory basis, and the venue runs as a licensed Pony Club centre alongside its session work.
The range of activities goes beyond simple hacking. Groom and ride sessions let children meet their pony on the ground before mounting, while ride and play sessions mix mounted time with the on-site play facilities. School holidays bring dedicated holiday camps, and themed experiences draw on a wardrobe of pony costumes so children can dress up their mount for the occasion. Birthday parties run in a dedicated party room, with the on-site ice cream bar, colouring corner, sand pit, bouncy castle and play area giving groups plenty to do between rides.
Group and educational visits are welcomed, and a mobile pony visit service brings ponies to locations within roughly twelve miles of the site for an additional fee. This makes Pony Patch a practical option for nurseries, schools and events in the surrounding High Peak and Tameside areas who want a hands-on equine experience without travelling to a yard.
The yard is licensed by High Peak Borough Council under reference HPKRE0003, and standard health and safety checks apply to all sessions. Prices start from GBP 12 for a fifteen-minute lead-rein ride out, with other sessions, parties and mobile visits quoted on request. The venue is open Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and closed Monday to Thursday. Bookings and enquiries should be directed to the school through its website or social channels to confirm availability.
