Northfield Farm Riding and Trekking Centre

Northfield Farm Riding and Trekking Centre sits on the edge of Flash, the highest village in Staffordshire, with direct access onto the open moorland of the Peak District. The centre is BHS approved and works under a current riding school licence issued by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. Rides are led by qualified guides, and the centre welcomes complete beginners as well as children, making it a practical starting point for anyone new to being on a horse.

The school specialises in hacking and trail riding rather than arena-based lessons, and the terrain is the main attraction. Riders head out across the moor on marked routes that take in gritstone edges, drystone walls and wide stretches of heather. Sessions range from a one hour loop up to half day, full day and two day trail rides, with multi-day trail breaks and short riding breaks available for those who want longer time in the saddle. The centre also runs corporate days and group or school bookings.

Onsite facilities include a car park, a block of stables and a self-catering accommodation unit, so visitors can turn a day ride into a weekend without moving the car. Saddle bags are available to borrow for longer rides, and the centre keeps horses for sale for riders thinking about taking their own horse on the moorland routes. Riders should note that Flash sits at altitude and conditions underfoot can change quickly with the weather.

Rides run Tuesday to Sunday at 10am, 10.30am or 2pm. The centre is closed on Mondays, except Bank Holiday Mondays. Prices start from GBP 50 for a one hour ride.
