Kilnsey Trekking & Riding Centre
Skipton, North Yorkshire
Kilnsey Trekking and Riding Centre is a family-run equestrian centre located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a short drive from Skipton in North Yorkshire. The centre operates as a British Horse Society Approved Riding School and holds Pony Club Approved Centre status, providing instruction for riders aged four and upwards. Lessons are open to complete beginners as well as more experienced riders, with separate child and adult sessions available throughout the week.
Hacking and pony trekking form a core part of the centre's offering, with rides taking in the surrounding Dales landscape and, where conditions allow, river rides. On the ground, the school caters for dressage, show jumping and stable management, and runs a busy programme of pony weeks and residential pony camps during the school holidays. Riders can also work through the BHS Changing Lives through Horses programme, and the centre runs an adopt-a-pony scheme that lets younger visitors get hands-on experience of caring for a pony.
Facilities include a 44 by 22 metre outdoor school used for lessons and jumping, a jumping paddock, stabling and a heated classroom for theory sessions. A heated party room is available for birthday parties, which the school hosts alongside group bookings from schools and visiting clubs. Gift vouchers can be purchased for lessons, rides or pony experiences.
From GBP 15.00, visitors can book a trek or a child class lesson at member rates, with non-member child lessons priced at GBP 20.00. The centre is open seven days a week, with telephone enquiries taken between 8.00am and 9.30am and between 4.00pm and 6.00pm. The riding establishment licence number is RE0005, and further details on riding holidays and seasonal events are available by contacting the centre directly at postcode BD23 5HS.
