Friars Hill Riding Stables
York, North Yorkshire
Friars Hill Riding Stables operates from a licensed site in Sinnington, a village on the edge of the North York Moors between York and Pickering. The stables sit on the British Horse Society approved register and are run by a team that has built a varied programme around both instruction and horse care. Riders can book group or private lessons, head out on guided hacks through the surrounding countryside, or arrange part or full livery for their own horse.
Children are catered for through a Pony Club Centre, giving younger riders structured activities alongside their normal lessons. Adult beginners are equally welcome, with thirty minute group lessons starting from GBP 24 on weekdays before 4pm. Private sessions, hacks and gift vouchers are also available, and the arenas can be hired separately from the rest of the yard.
The site has both an indoor school and an outdoor arena, so lessons can continue whatever the weather. On-site parking is provided for visitors, and stabling is available for liveries. The hacking takes in the lanes and trails around Sinnington, with routes that suit riders building their confidence as well as those wanting longer outings on the moors.
The stables are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 8pm, Friday from 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm. The yard is closed on Wednesdays. The premises are licensed by North Yorkshire Council and the postcode for sat nav users is YO62 6SL. Anyone interested in lessons, livery or Pony Club membership is advised to contact the yard direct to book.
