J F Polo Academy

Chester, Cheshire West and Chester

J F Polo Academy runs from a rural base on the outskirts of Chester, in the Cheshire West and Chester area, and operates as a licensed polo school under Cheshire West and Chester Council. The school is open all year round and accepts riders of every level, from absolute beginners through to established professionals, with children's lessons starting from age six. Teaching is delivered by instructors affiliated with the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), and the academy is also a supporter of the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) scheme. It has previously been recognised with a Sports Tuition Service of the Year award from the Manchester and North West Prestige Awards in 2020.

The range of disciplines taught on site covers arena polo, chukkas, polocrosse and farm rides. Riders can take private or group lessons, join clinics and exhibition matches, or sign up for holiday camps and birthday packages. Experience days and polo holidays are available for visitors who want to try the sport without committing to regular lessons, and the academy also runs Pony Club polo sessions, a polo pony hire service, and a sales list for those looking to buy their own horse.

Facilities are designed around the needs of working polo yards. There are eight stables on site, with 24/7 turnout for the horses and 24-hour security supported by 4K CCTV. Riders can warm up or practise in an outdoor arena, and the open barn, equine laundrette and horse wash area keep day-to-day care practical. For downtime between chukkas, the grounds include a picnic area, BBQ area, fire pit, outdoor bar and a plumbed-in toilet. Hacking is available directly from the property.

Full polo livery is offered for owners wanting their horses kept on site, alongside the services already mentioned. The postcode for sat-nav users is CH3 7JZ, and the yard can be found within easy reach of central Chester, with the surrounding Cheshire countryside providing the rural setting expected of a working polo establishment. Visitors are advised to contact the academy directly to arrange lessons, book an experience day, or discuss livery availability.
