Canal Bank Stables sits alongside the Lancaster Canal and offers a broad range of equestrian activities for riders of all ages and abilities. The school runs a busy lesson programme catering to complete beginners through to more experienced riders, alongside hacking, dressage, show jumping and cross country schooling. Children are well catered for with dedicated children's lessons, pony rides and an adopt-a-pony-for-the-day experience that lets younger riders spend time looking after a pony outside the saddle.
School holiday periods are covered by pony camps, giving children a chance to learn about horsemanship in a structured, sociable setting. The centre also hosts Pony Club activities, making it a practical choice for families looking to link in with the official organisation. For those wanting to develop particular skills, visiting instructor clinics are arranged periodically, and arena hire is available for independent training sessions.
Facilities at the yard are extensive. Riders can make use of a floodlit indoor arena and a floodlit outdoor sand arena, a grass jumping paddock and a canter hill for fitness work. There is a judge's box for competition practice, CCTV coverage across the site, feed rooms, on-site lorry and trailer storage, and a dog park for visiting four-legged companions. An on-site cafe allows riders, parents and spectators to relax between sessions, and a farm shop on the grounds adds a useful stop for those passing through.
Canal Bank Stables also offers full livery services, including DIY livery and longer rehabilitation stays for horses needing careful management. Hacks from the centre take advantage of the Lancaster Canal towpath and surrounding countryside. Prices start from GBP 10 for a ten-minute pony ride. The postcode for satnav is LA1 5BA, and visitors are advised to contact the yard directly to book lessons or arrange a visit.
