Ashdown Riding

Uckfield, East Sussex

Ashdown Riding operates as both an established riding school and a hacking centre on the edge of Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. Instruction is offered from age four upwards, making the centre accessible to young children as well as older riders. Lessons cover flatwork and show jumping, with side saddle available as an additional discipline. Group hacks and private hacks are arranged on the surrounding forest, providing a different experience from arena-based work.

Teaching caters for beginners through to more experienced riders, and the centre runs pony mornings, holiday camps and home education sessions for children. Stable management sessions are part of the offering, allowing riders to learn about horse care alongside ridden work. Birthday parties are available from £20 per child, while a 45-minute group lesson is priced from £25. BHS-qualified instructors deliver the lessons.

The facilities include an outdoor sand school fitted with floodlights, which extends the hours during which riding can take place. On-site stabling and parking are provided. The setting on Ashdown Forest gives direct access to off-road hacking routes, and pony loans are also offered for riders who want regular time with their own horse.

Ashdown Riding is located in Uckfield, East Sussex, with the postcode TN22 3HH. Opening hours run from Tuesday to Sunday, 7 AM to 10 PM. The centre is licensed and enquiries can be made by phone or by visiting the centre in person during opening hours.
