West Lothian RDA

West Lothian

West Lothian RDA is a volunteer-run charity that provides therapeutic riding sessions for adults and children with physical and learning disabilities. Based at Whitequarries in West Lothian, the group works with a herd of horses and ponies selected to suit riders with a range of needs. All sessions are delivered by trained volunteers and qualified coaches who follow the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) approach to therapeutic horsemanship.

The school offers therapeutic riding sessions, with teaching available for children as well as adults. Lessons take place in an outdoor arena, allowing riders to work in the open air while remaining within a controlled environment. The focus is on individual progress rather than competition, with each session planned around the rider's abilities and goals.

As an RDA member group, West Lothian RDA follows established guidelines for safety, coaching and welfare. The group also welcomes new volunteers, offering opportunities for people to support riders, lead horses or assist with the day-to-day running of sessions. The setting at Whitequarries provides a calm rural backdrop that lends itself to the relaxed pace of therapeutic riding.

West Lothian RDA operates as a registered Scottish charity (SC049451) and is entirely volunteer led. Anyone interested in booking sessions, arranging a taster ride, or finding out more about volunteering can get in touch directly with the group through its contact channels. The team will be able to discuss availability, session formats and any specific requirements a prospective rider or helper may have.
