Smeltings Farm Riding Centre operates as a 5-star licensed riding school and full livery yard set across 35 acres on the outskirts of Sheffield. Listed on the British Horse Society approved register and holding ABRS approval, the centre runs private and small group lessons with a maximum of four riders per session. Group lessons start from GBP 30 for a 30 minute class, and the centre also runs dedicated sessions on an equisimulator for riders wanting to work on position and balance.
Riders of all levels are catered for, from complete beginners through to children taking their first lessons. School holiday lessons and short courses are scheduled throughout the year, giving younger riders a structured way to keep up their riding during breaks. Stable management training sits alongside the ridden instruction, so students can learn the day to day care of horses as well as time in the saddle. Hacking is offered along an on-site hacking track, and show jumping is taught using the jumping and agility paddock.
The facilities include an indoor arena and an outdoor arena, both lit, plus a round pen, a lunge pen and stabling for 36 horses. A solarium and a hot water shower are available on the yard, and CCTV covers the site. The outdoor setting on the edge of Sheffield gives a rural feel while keeping the centre within easy reach of the city.
Opening hours run from 8:30am to 6:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with shorter hours of 8:30am to 3:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The centre is closed on Tuesdays.
