Northern Ireland Polo Club

Downpatrick, Newry, Mourne and Down

Founded in 1994, the Northern Ireland Polo Club holds the distinction of being the only polo club in Northern Ireland. Based at Tyrella House near Downpatrick, with a second ground at Rhone Hill in Dungannon, the club provides polo instruction alongside more general riding activities. Lessons are available for beginners, and the club runs regular polo taster days and instructional chukkas for those new to the sport.

Members and visitors can take part in club chukkas and club tournaments throughout the season. Riding lessons, hacking and beach rides are offered as well as polo, giving riders a varied programme of activities. Pony hire is available for those without their own horse, and the club also runs horse sales, polo tack sales and horse training services. Livery is offered on site for owners who keep their horses at the club.

Facilities include an indoor arena, an outdoor polo ground and a separate outdoor arena, together with a cross country course and a clubhouse. The indoor arena allows polo to continue through the winter months, while the outdoor grounds and the nearby beach provide space for riding and matches in the warmer seasons. The club is affiliated to the HPA (Hurlingham Polo Association).

Located in Downpatrick in the district of Newry, Mourne and Down, the postcode is BT30 8SU. Club chukkas start from GBP 60 per chukka. Anyone interested in polo lessons, taster days, livery or joining the club should get in touch with the Northern Ireland Polo Club directly for further details on membership and bookings.
