Grange Pony Trekking

Abergavenny, Powys

Grange Pony Trekking has been running from the foothills of the Black Mountains since 1957, offering guided rides on Welsh cobs and ponies across the surrounding hills and trails near Abergavenny. The centre runs hour-long rides as well as half-day and full-day treks, and also arranges multi-day riding breaks for those wanting a longer stay in the area.

The centre caters to a wide range of riders. Beginners are welcome, with ponies and horses matched to each rider's experience, and children can be introduced to riding through dedicated sessions and holiday camps. Group bookings, stag and hen days, and team-building events are offered alongside the standard trekking timetable. Hacking is available for those looking to spend more time in the saddle, and the centre teaches both adults and children.

Accommodation on site includes a guesthouse offering bed and breakfast, a campsite, glamping pods and a shepherd's hut, with a campfire area, shower block and compost loo provided for guests. Packed lunches can be arranged for riders heading out on the hills. The site also has car parking and stabling, and the treks use a network of bridleways that lead into the open country of the Black Mountains.

Grange holds an Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) licence and is licensed by Powys County Council. It is also accredited by Visit Wales and the Wales Trekking and Riding Association. All riding experiences are by advance booking, with rides running from April to early November. B&B is available during the same period, while camping and glamping are offered all year. The postcode for satnav users is NP7 7NP, and the centre can be contacted directly to enquire about availability and prices, with hour rides starting from 49 GBP per person.
