Burcott and District Riding for the Disabled Group

Somerset

Burcott and District Riding for the Disabled Group operates in Somerset within the South West of England and provides accessible horse riding opportunities alongside other equestrian services. The centre runs riding tuition, hacking and livery packages, including DIY stabled livery, assisted livery, part livery, full livery and grass livery, as well as holiday livery for short stays. One-to-one riding tuition is available, with prices starting from GBP 55 for a 45 minute lesson at Elsfield on a client's own horse or pony. Competition training and clinics are also offered for riders who wish to develop their skills across a range of disciplines, with the yard working in cross country, dressage, endurance, eventing, show jumping and western riding.

The facilities are arranged around a 20 by 60 metre outdoor arena fitted with arena lights, allowing for evening and winter work. The school keeps show jumps and fillers, dressage boards and mirrors in place, and riders benefit from a judges box for practice and tests. Additional practical features include a horse wash area with a warm shower, a drying room for clients and helpers, hay and bedding storage, and automatic water troughs in the turnout paddocks. Summer and winter turnout paddocks give horses regular time at grass, supporting varied routines across the year.

The accessible nature of the centre means it welcomes riders of different abilities, including those with disabilities, and the combination of lessons, hacking and competition training makes it suitable for both recreational riders and those aiming to compete. The mix of disciplines covered gives returning clients scope to change focus, while the livery options cater for owners who want varying levels of involvement in their horse's daily care.

Parking is available on site and visitors are encouraged to contact the group directly to discuss lesson bookings, livery availability and any accessibility requirements. The yard operates under BHSII accreditation, providing a recognised standard of instruction and horse care for clients across Somerset and the wider South West of England.
