Woodend Riding Centre is a family-friendly equestrian centre situated in Kilsyth on the northern edge of the Glasgow urban area. Established in 1990, the centre has built a long-standing reputation for providing accessible horse riding in North Lanarkshire, catering to riders of every age and stage of experience.
Lessons form the core of what the centre offers, with sessions available for complete beginners through to more established riders. Younger children are catered for with toddler lead-outs starting from GBP 15 for 15 minutes, and pony parties and own-a-pony days give children a more hands-on introduction to horses. Older riders and adults can take regular lessons across a range of disciplines including dressage, flatwork, show jumping and cross country. Hacking and trekking are also available for those who prefer time out on the trails.
The facilities at Woodend are set up to keep riding going in all conditions. There is an indoor arena with a carpet fibre surface, alongside a sizeable outdoor arena, so lessons can continue regardless of the Scottish weather. The centre keeps 36 stables, a tack room, a feed store and an xc field for cross-country work. CCTV covers the yard for added security. Clinics and competitions are held regularly, giving riders opportunities to develop their skills and test them in a competitive setting.
Livery is available for owners who want their horse based at the centre, and birthday parties can be arranged for groups looking for a different kind of celebration. Opening hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00am to 8:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays are closed for lessons. The postcode for sat-nav users is G65 0PZ. Anyone interested in booking lessons, livery or a clinic should contact the centre directly for current availability and pricing.
