The Brook
The Brook is home to Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled Association, a charity-run group that delivers therapeutic and recreational riding sessions for roughly 160 disabled riders each year. Located near Ivybridge in Devon, the centre works with participants of all ages, offering group riding sessions, individual riding sessions, hippotherapy, and a Perthes therapy programme alongside mechanical horse sessions and horse care sessions. Stable management and supported work placements are also available for those building practical skills.
The school holds accreditations with the ABRS, BHS, and the Riding for the Disabled Association, and it is a confirmed RDA member. Riders can work towards ASDAN programmes and the Changing Lives Through Horses initiative, with sessions supporting education as well as equine facilitated learning. Riders can also take part in competitions, with countryside challenge, dressage, and show jumping all listed among the disciplines on offer.
Facilities at The Brook are set up with accessibility in mind, including disabled access, disabled toilets, and a hoist to assist with mounting. Riding takes place in both an indoor riding school and an outdoor school, while a sensory children's corner, a life skills and art room, and a recreation and education room provide space for activities away from the saddle. A stable block supports the horses on site, and parking is available for visitors.
Children are taught at the centre, with Under 5's Sessions starting from GBP 15. Opening hours run from Monday to Saturday, with sessions on Monday 9am to 6pm, Wednesday 10am to 1pm, Thursday 10am to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, Friday 11.30am to 1.30pm, and Saturday 9am to 12pm. Private arrangements can also be made outside these times for those who need a different schedule.
