Set on the outskirts of Bristol, The Avon Centre is an equine and nature-based charity that delivers riding lessons alongside a wider programme of countryside activities. Tuition is available for beginners and children, with instruction from British Horse Society accredited coaches. Riders can work across a number of disciplines, including dressage, show jumping, cross country, hacking, endurance and stable management, giving plenty of scope for progression from first lessons through to more focused study.
The centre is a member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association and runs RDA therapeutic riding sessions, as well as shetland therapy work. It is fully accessible, with wheelchair accessible seating in place so that visitors with mobility needs can take part. Beyond mounted activities, the site hosts competitions, facility hire and nature-based sessions that make use of its woodland nature area.
Facilities are extensive for a venue within easy reach of the city. Riders use a large indoor arena and a floodlit outdoor arena, with show jumps, cross country fences and a hacking track on the grounds. A mechanical horse simulator supports lessons and confidence building, while a canter track gives a space for working horses at pace. A meeting room is also available for groups and events.
The Avon Centre sits on roughly 100 acres of grounds at postcode BS10 7QT, in the South West of England. It is a registered charity (no. 281648) and is listed on the British Horse Society approved register. Outdoor arena hire starts from GBP 16.50 per hour for one horse. Opening hours run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Prospective riders and group organisers should contact the centre directly to arrange lessons, RDA sessions or facility bookings.
