North Sannox Pony Trekking

North Ayrshire

North Sannox Pony Trekking operates on a working hill sheep farm on the Isle of Arran, where the same family has been welcoming riders since 1981. The centre runs guided pony trekking excursions through the island's countryside, using the breed from which the activity takes its name. Treks are led by experienced staff and travel along routes suited to the group's ability, with terrain ranging from forest tracks to open hill ground depending on conditions.

The centre caters mainly to children, and beginners of all ages are accommodated alongside more experienced riders who simply want to enjoy the scenery from horseback. Paddock rides are offered as a short introductory option for younger children aged 3 to 5, priced from GBP 10, giving them a safe first experience of riding before they progress to longer treks on the surrounding land. Hacking through the local landscape forms the core of what is on offer.

Accommodation is available at the farm in the form of a self catering cottage, allowing visitors to combine a stay on Arran with several days of riding. The farm setting gives a clear sense of working rural life, with sheep, ponies and the wider coastline and hills of the island providing the backdrop to each ride. The centre is closed on Sundays.

The school holds accreditation from the Trekking and Riding Society of Scotland (TRSS), and bookings are made directly with the centre. Riders should contact North Sannox Pony Trekking in advance to confirm availability, arrange suitable trek lengths, and check what to wear and bring. Prices, routes and group sizes can all be discussed at the time of booking, and staff are accustomed to advising first-time riders and families on the most appropriate option for their group.
