Courses For Horses is a British Horse Society Approved Riding and Training Centre based at Lower Stonehouse Farm in Brown Edge, on the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent. The centre provides one-to-one riding lessons for beginners through to experienced riders, with each session tailored to the individual rather than taught in a group format. Riders work towards dressage and show jumping goals, and the centre also offers dedicated BHS Stage 1 to Stage 3 exam training for those following the BHS qualification pathway.
The school welcomes children and adults, including those with no prior riding experience, and runs a structured SEN provision that incorporates the BHS Changing Lives Through Horses programme. Confidence coaching and lunging sessions are also available, alongside private horse care lessons for riders who want to learn more about the day-to-day care of a horse. Pony days, activity days and birthday parties are scheduled during school holidays and at weekends, making the centre accessible to families looking for short-format equestrian experiences.
Lessons take place in both an indoor and an outdoor arena, allowing year-round teaching regardless of weather. A large car park serves visitors, and the rural setting at Lower Stonehouse Farm provides a quiet environment away from busy roads. Riders can choose to bring their own horse for lessons or ride one of the centre's horses.
Courses For Horses holds a licence issued by Staffordshire District Council and is listed on the BHS approved register. Lessons start from GBP 25 for a 30 minute first session for new and returning riders. The postcode for sat-nav users is ST6 8TF. Anyone interested in booking a lesson, a pony day or a birthday party should get in touch with the centre directly to confirm availability and current pricing.
